Projet Rafistolage / The Tinker Project
There were over 800 Makers in 250 Maker booths, and around 12,000 visitors came to La cité des sciences et de l'industrie over three days. 32 visitors participated in the Tinker Project, and two thirds of them were kids!
The Tinkerette (la Rafistoleuse) got a "Maker of Merit 2019" blue ribbon award from the amazing curator of Maker Faire France, Bertrand Beaudry. MERCI Bertrand!

The Tinkerette was roaming around the Hamilton Mini Maker Faire with a light and portable version of the Tinker Project. No workbench nor tools, just an easel/lectern, pens and paper. The wind scattered everything on the huge lawn, but that was good publicity... Some visitors brought her objects, others only described the ones they wanted to repair or revamp, and the Tinkerette developed creative and playful ideas for fixing them. She sketched those ideas before their eyes to empower them to upcycle their own objects themselves. The results will be posted on this blog, on the page JOURNAL.

With her lightweight version of The Tinker Project, the Tinkerette spent two days roaming the colossal atrium of Concordia University among the 50 other maker's booths. Passersby stopped at the sound of her bells to get immersed in intense 15 minute brainstorms around revival plans for their derelict objects. She was delighted with their enthusiasm and complex proposals. Among them were kids with very precise and articulated ideas. The Tinkerette made quick drawings of the wacky ideas developed with participants in order to empower them to upcycle their objects themselves. The sketches came out as the discussions developed and vice-versa. Only a small percentage of the projects came to a final resolution when their owners became makers themselves and fixed them. Some of the results are posted on this blog, on the page JOURNAL. Hopefully, more images of tinkered objects will land on this page in the future. One has to find the time, energy, will and drive to become a maker.
